Every Gem (except blood crystals) will upgrade tools in the order above. You need to be global level 1500 and buy the ability to socket blood diamonds for 100m to be able to upgrade tools to blood diamonds. Upgrading tools is much more valuable than selling them to the NPC market, but trading them can give you some quick cash.

Also:
If you have T5 mining, every gem can be upgraded to the next gem if you have 10 of that gem. This works for every gem except Blood Crystals and Blood Diamonds.

  +
If you have [https://diamondhuntmobile.fandom.com/wiki/Research#Mining T5 Mining Research], you can convert 10 of one gem to 1 gem of the next rarity. This is usually used to create Blood Crystals, as people offer better exchange rates via [https://diamondhuntmobile.fandom.com/wiki/Trading_and_the_Trading_Post#Trading Trading].
Note: Blood Crystals can only be mined if you have T2 Mining.

  +
[https://diamondhuntmobile.fandom.com/wiki/Blood_Crystals Blood Crystals] are different from other gems, as they are used as a form of currency.
Another Note: Selling gems is not recommended, unless you are trading as people would buy them for 1000 to 2000 times more than the NPC.

Uses (non-BC)

Gems are used for...

  • Upgrading Tools (and Berserker Amulets/Rings), improving their speed and/or efficiency. You need to socket the gems in order by rarity: Empty -> Sapphire -> Emerald -> Ruby -> Diamond -> Blood Diamond.
  • Crafting keys, which are used to open Treasure Chests. The better the key, the more chest slots you have. More chest slots means a higher chance if getting better loot. (see the page on treasure chests for more info)
  • Upgrading Rings
  • Gem Displays , which are useful for crafting XP and can be sold for some coins, but they are less profitable than Trading.

Also:

If you have T5 Mining Research, you can convert 10 of one gem to 1 gem of the next rarity. This is usually used to create Blood Crystals, as people offer better exchange rates via Trading.

Blood Crystals are different from other gems, as they are used as a form of currency.
